What happens at your first visit

People put off their first visit because they do not know what to expect. Here is the whole hour, in order, so there are no surprises.

1. A conversation first

The first 20 minutes or so are spent talking. When the pain started, what makes it worse, what you have already tried, what you want to get back to. Bring a list of any medication and the name of your GP.

2. The examination

We look at how you stand, sit and move, and test the joints and muscles involved. You stay in your own clothes; loose ones are easiest. If anything hurts, say so. We do not need to reproduce your pain to understand it.

3. What we found

Before any treatment, we tell you what we think is going on, what we would do about it and roughly how many visits it is likely to take. If we think chiropractic care is not the right thing for you, we say that too and point you towards someone who can help.

4. Treatment, if you want it

Most people have their first treatment the same day. It is gentle, and you are in charge of the pace. Some soreness afterwards is common and settles within a day or two.

5. The plan

You leave with a written plan, a couple of things to do at home, and a date for your next visit. The follow-up is shorter and costs less.
